Introduction

The Tabernacle of the Old Testament was more than a sacred structure—it was a powerful teaching tool. Through symbols and design, it teaches how we can draw closer to God and understand our need for Jesus Christ. Like modern temples, the Tabernacle points the way back to God’s presence and helps us see how Christ makes that journey possible.

This website provides information to help you organize and host an Old Testament tabernacle experience in your area. It also includes a Study Guide with in-depth descriptions and videos explaining the symbols of the tabernacle.

The purpose of the Tabernacle experience is three-fold:

• Help people gain a deeper understanding of temple      covenants and the Savior’s atoning sacrifice.

• Strengthen the faith of the rising generation and help prepare them for missionary service and temple ordinances.

• Invite friends and neighbors to explore shared beliefs in a welcoming way.

Background

In 2023, a temporary mission was created to share a full‑scale Tabernacle exhibit throughout Utah. Two replicas were built and transported to stake centers, where senior missionaries managed the setups and youth guided visitors through the experience. More than half a million people participated including over 50,000 youth.

At the conclusion of that mission, one of the tabernacles was given to the Farmington Utah North Stake and the other to the Morgan Utah Stake to manage and share as they deemed appropriate.

As requests for the tabernacle came from far and wide, it became clear that transporting and setting up the exhibits would be costly and difficult to manage. In addition, many locations lacked an open playing field for the setup. To continue sharing this experience, the Farmington North Stake converted their Tabernacle into a full-scale indoor exhibit that is easier to transport and set up while preserving all the key elements. Unaffected by weather conditions, the indoor tabernacle can be used year-round, rain or shine.

Tabernacle Visitor's Center

Visitors begin their experience in small groups, gathering in a Welcome Room where a short video introduces the purpose and symbolism of the Tabernacle before the tour begins.

From there, youth guides lead guests through nine stations where they teach about the covenants and symbols of the Tabernacle and how each part points to Jesus Christ. The tour concludes with displays of Christ and the Temple.

The entire tour takes about an hour.
